Vichy in the rain: indoor ideas for a wet day

The Hall des Sources in Vichy, an ideal covered spot for a rainy day.

Raining in Vichy? No reason to spoil the day. The town has several covered venues within a few minutes' walk of each other: the Hall des Sources, the galleries of the Parc des Sources, two museums, the Opera, the Grand Marché, a cinema and indoor swimming pools. Here is how to plan a dry day out, with opening times given as a guide, to be checked before you set off.

The Hall des Sources and the covered galleries

The Hall des Sources is the ideal starting point. Built in 1903, with its cast-iron structure, it houses the Chomel and Grande Grille springs. Entry is free, every day of the year, from 7 am to 7.30 pm according to the tourist office. Recent works removed the partitions to restore the building's sense of light and openness.

From the hall, the covered galleries of the Parc des Sources let you walk for a long time without an umbrella. The promenade gallery, a listed historic monument, is around 700 metres long. Its restoration, with a new roof, was completed in June 2026. It makes a lovely walk in the rain, with views of the park's trees and the Belle Époque façades.

The museums: open in season

Vichy has two easily accessible museums. Note that they mainly open from spring to autumn.

The dates for the 2027 season have not yet been published. Check with the tourist office before your stay if you are coming in winter.

Guided tours of the Opera and the Grand Casino

The Opéra de Vichy, 1 rue du Casino, can be visited with a guide from the Vichy Destinations tourist office. There are two tours: the Opera auditorium, and the Grand Casino-Opéra. They run on certain dates, at €12.50 according to the tourist office website. Slots vary with the season: check the programme on the Vichy Destinations website or call 04 70 98 71 94.

Another option: book a show. The Opera hosts ballet, concerts, theatre and comedy all year round. An evening at the Opera remains one of the best ways to make the most of a grey day.

Indoor pools, thermal baths and spa

To burn off some energy under cover, Vichy Communauté runs two indoor swimming pools:

Opening times differ between term time and holidays. They are published on the Vichy Communauté website. A swimming cap is compulsory and baggy swim shorts are not allowed.

For relaxation, the Célestins Spa Thermal, boulevard des États-Unis, offers day packages in a spa supplied with Vichy thermal water (hot water bath, sauna, hammam). The Callou and Les Dômes thermal baths are mainly reserved for spa-cure patients. Les Dômes reopened its premium baths in June 2026, after renovation. If you are coming for a spa cure, see our guide to accommodation for a spa cure in Vichy.

The Grand Marché and the cinema

The Grand Marché, place Pierre-Victor-Léger, is a covered market hall open Tuesday to Sunday, from 7 am to 1 pm. You can do your shopping, taste local produce and sit down for a bite. On Saturday mornings, producers set up on the upper floor. All the details are in our article on Vichy's markets.

In the afternoon, the Étoile Palace cinema, 35 rue Lucas, has 7 digital screens right in the town centre. Handy for rounding off a rainy day.

A dry base, close to everything

When it rains, the best asset is a well-located place to stay. From our town-centre apartments, the Grand Marché, the cinema and the Opera are a few minutes' walk away. Our apartments in the spa quarter are very close to the Hall des Sources and the covered galleries. Cleaning and linen are included, and you can book from one night.
