Vichy's markets: days, opening times and where to go
Published 31 October 2026
In Vichy, there is a market almost every day. The covered Grand Marché opens Tuesday to Sunday mornings, an open-air market surrounds it on Wednesdays, and other squares in town host stalls during the week. Here are the days, the opening times and the markets in nearby towns, to be checked before you go as they may change.
The covered Grand Marché: Tuesday to Sunday
The Grand Marché is on place Pierre-Victor-Léger, right in the town centre. The market hall dates from 1935 and was renovated in 2006. You will find butchers, cheesemongers, greengrocers, fishmongers, bakers and a few counters where you can eat on the spot.
- Opening times: Tuesday to Sunday, from 7 am to 1 pm. Closed on Mondays.
- Bank holidays: the hall also opens on bank holidays and the day before festivities.
- Saturday mornings: around sixty local producers set up on the mezzanine. It is the best time for seasonal vegetables, poultry, cheeses and honey from the Bourbonnais.
Opening times and events are announced on the Grand Marché website and on the Ville de Vichy website.
Wednesdays: the market around the halls
Every Wednesday morning, an open-air market sets up in the streets around the Grand Marché. It brings together travelling traders: clothing, household linen, accessories, plants and food. It is the liveliest day in the town centre. Come early if you are looking for a parking space, or better still, come on foot.
Vichy's other markets
Other small markets are held on the town's squares. According to the Vichy Destinations tourist office:
- Place de l'Hôtel de Ville: Tuesday and Thursday, from 8 am to 1 pm, all year round.
- Place de la Victoire: Friday, from 8 am to 1 pm, all year round.
These markets are smaller than the Grand Marché, with mostly producers. The tourist office points out that these times are not guaranteed: ask locally or call 04 70 98 71 94.
Markets in nearby towns
If you are staying outside the centre, in one of our rentals, or simply fancy a change of scene, several nearby towns have their own market:
- Cusset, cours Lafayette: Tuesday from 4.30 pm to 7.30 pm and Saturday from 7.30 am to 12.30 pm, all year round.
- Saint-Yorre: Wednesday from 7.30 am to 12.30 pm, all year round.
- Bellerive-sur-Allier: in 2025, the market was held on Tuesday and Saturday mornings, from 6 am to 1 pm, in the car park on place de la Source Intermittente (from March to September). The 2027 calendar has not yet been published.
In summer, night markets make a good evening outing. In 2026, Bellerive-sur-Allier held several in the parc du Pont d'Allier, with around twenty stallholders, from 5 pm to 11 pm. Cusset hosted a local producers' market on 17 July 2026, place Victor-Hugo, from 6 pm to 11 pm. The summer 2027 programme will be announced in spring.
Christmas markets
In December, several towns in the area hold their Christmas market, often on different weekends:
- Cusset kicks things off. Its 27th Christmas market will run from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 December 2026: Friday from 4 pm to 10 pm, Saturday from 10 am to 10 pm, Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm, around place Victor-Hugo and the neighbouring streets.
- Vichy holds a traditional market with craftspeople and local specialities. In 2025, it took place on place de la Poste from 12 to 14 December, with an ice rink and fairground rides alongside. The 2026 dates had not yet been announced at the end of October: check the « Noël à Vichy » programme published by the town in November.
- Bellerive-sur-Allier sets up its « Village Ô Sources de Noël », place de la Source Intermittente, over three days.
During the festive season, the Grand Marché also puts on events and extended opening hours on certain days.
