Spa cure in Vichy: preparing for 2027

A Grande Maison property in Vichy's spa district

A spa cure in Vichy in 2027 involves three steps: getting a prescription from your doctor, having the cover approved by your health insurance fund, then booking your dates at the Thermes. The Thermes Callou are open from 8 February to 18 December 2027 and the Thermes les Dômes from 22 March to 27 November 2027. Here are the details of each step and what is reimbursed today. These rules concern people covered by the French health insurance system.

The Thermes de Vichy in 2027

Vichy's spa establishments now operate under the name Vy Resort Thermal & Spa. Two establishments take cures covered by French health insurance:

Two conditions are treated: rheumatology (osteoarthritis, rheumatism, fibromyalgia) and the digestive system. A dual treatment is possible, with 6 treatments a day instead of 4. The cure includes 18 days of treatment, Monday to Saturday, over three weeks. Details are on the covered-cure page of the Vy Resort website (in French).

Step 1: the medical prescription

The cure is prescribed by your doctor, who specifies the treatment and the spa town. Together you fill in the approval questionnaire (Cerfa form no. 11139*03). You attach a statement of your income with supporting documents: this is used to decide whether you are entitled to reimbursement of travel and accommodation.

Only one cure is covered per calendar year. Good to know: according to the French national health insurance, approval given in the last quarter remains valid for the first quarter of the following year, and approval issued in December is valid for the whole of the following year. If you are aiming for a cure in spring 2027, applying this autumn may therefore be enough.

Step 2: approval by your insurance fund

You send the file to your CPAM (or MSA) before the cure. No precise deadline is set, but it is best not to wait: you will need it to book. The fund sends you back an approval form (Cerfa no. 11140) in three parts:

  1. part 1, for fees, to give to the spa doctor;
  2. part 2, for the spa package, to give to the Thermes;
  3. part 3, for travel and accommodation, to send back to your fund after the cure.

The procedure is explained on ameli.fr and service-public.gouv.fr (both in French).

What is reimbursed today

For travel and accommodation, your income in the year before the cure must not exceed €14,664.38 for a single person, plus €7,332.19 per dependant. For a long-term condition with full exemption, there is no patient contribution on the related treatments. Your top-up health insurance may cover the rest, and sometimes the supplement: check with your provider.

What about 2027? At present, the 65% rate is unchanged. However, in October 2026 the government announced that part of the funding of spa cures would move to top-up health insurers in 2027. The 2027 social security financing bill is being examined by Parliament and no new rate has been published. We will update this article if the rules change.

Step 3: booking the cure and your accommodation

Once you have your approval, book your dates with the Thermes: by phone on 04 43 23 81 11 (free call), by email at resa@vy-resort.com or via the online form. Choose the establishment according to your dates: in January or December, only the Thermes Callou are open in 2027.

Then book your accommodation for three weeks. Our tips for choosing it are in our article where to stay during a spa cure in Vichy, and our apartments near the Thermes are gathered on the spa cure stay page and in the spa district. They can be booked from one night, with cleaning and linen included.
